Idyllwild
Water District,
California’s
First Solar-Driven Pumping
System for a Public Water Utility
Located
in the San Jacinto Mountains near Palm Springs
is Idyllwild Water District-- the first water utility
in the nation to use solar energy to power its
pumps. WorldWater & Power's 44.1 kW array powers
a 57 horsepower pumping system which encompasses
six primary wells and a water filtration plant.
It is projected to save the water district approximately
70% of the electrical costs particular to this
system, and will also provide the added benefit
of back-up power protection in the event of an
electrical grid failure.
